In-road sensors and AI systems laser-target road inspection.
We are working alongside Southampton City Council’s highways partner, Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP), to provide low-powered long-life IOT sensors that will be fitted to selected vehicles in the council and BBLP fleet and on Blue Star buses to trail their movements.
These devices will scan the city’s roads as the vehicles drive. The data collected will be analysed using artificial intelligence to provide insight on the future condition of roads and enable BBLP to better identify and manage repair needs with major savings in maintenance and supervision costs. *Highways UK Intelligent Infrastructure Challenge Finalist 2018

"Winning the Department for Transport grant to explore these technologies is a real bonus for the city. The project demonstrates our commitment to look for innovative ways of tackling ongoing issues like road maintenance and pothole repair to improve outcomes for all roads users.
We are already getting on with the job of maintaining Southampton’s roads and this will help us to do more. In the first nine months of this year alone we have repaired 4432 potholes on Southampton’s roads. We’ve also invested £8m in an ongoing programme to resurface residential roads."

THE SMART THING WE DELIVERED
Autonomous and self contained sensor for integrating into the road surface.
The emmergence of IOT technology has created a storm of assumptions and myths. Our aim is to pull back the curtain and demonstrate the real world applications and opportunities IOT offers. What better way to do this than to bring our busines to the high street.
